"Man sells his life"

According to an article I read on Yahoo news, there is a man named, Ian Usher, who sold all his worldly possessions on eBay. He made under half a million dollars after the 7-day auction was over. He sold material possessions, like his 3-bedroom house and all its furnishings, his motorcycle, and his jet ski, along with his job and friends. After visiting his website, I was beginning to understand his reason for making such a drastic decision and why he has plans to find a new life.
I, myself, have actually considered making the same decision in my own life—selling my worldly possessions like my books, stuffed animals, and other things I don't really use. Whenever I sit on my bed, I look around my room and realize I have so much things that have taken up so much space in my room! When you have a lot of things, you begin to notice how hard it is to maintain them. However, I am not to sure about selling everything I own. I totally commend Mr.Usher for his decision and I hope he will find a better life through Christ.

After reading this story, I am reminded of a similar situation in the Bible except that the choice was different.

"Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"
"Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. if you want to enter life, obey the commandments."
"Which ones?" the man inquired.
Jesus replied, "'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,' and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'"
"All these things I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"
Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
-Matthew 19:16-22

The young man walked away sad...isn't that just sad? The guy did not know how to let go of his wealth to follow Christ. Now, owning possessions isn't bad in and of itself as long as we learn not to claim anything our own.

"Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need."
-Acts 2:45

"All believers were one in heart and mind. no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had."
-Acts 4:32

I don't know what Mr.Usher's motive is or what his spiritual life is like with Christ, but can you imagine how amazing it would be if he were a believer and he gave a portion of his money to God's people?! WOW! I would consider this guy a great role model for all believers!! Well, actually, I already do consider him a sort of role model because if he (a mere human being) could do something so great, like selling all his possessions, then why can't I do the same thing? I just need to pray for God's guidance for me if I am really and truly considering this as a way to really strengthen my relationship with Him!
